A battle between the musketeers and the Cardinal's guards engulfs the palace. Outside the musketeer headquarters, Gérard and his brothers arrive and challenge d'Artagnan to a duel; Porthos reminds him that musketeers not only protect King and country, but also each other. Outside Musketeer Headquarters, Gérard and his brothers once again challenge d'Artagnan to an immediate duel. Fortunately, Athos, Porthos and Aramis have refused to lay down their weapons and continue to protect their king. Made-for-television movies are distributed in 4:3 small screen. Athos duels Rochefort and d'Artagnan interrupts the battle to fight Rochefort himself. Meanwhile, men from the crowd rush to their sides and reveal that they are musketeers. Arriving in Paris to join the Musketeers, D'Artagnan uncovers the Cardinal's plans, and the four set out on a mission to protect King and Country. The boatman then casts off his cloak and the Cardinal is astonished to see that it is Aramis.

Richelieu deflects blame to the three musketeers in the crowd for the attempted assassination. D'Artagnan joins with the rogues to expose Richelieu's plot against the crown. Although d'Artagnan himself is not under arrest, he joins the three musketeers in the ensuing skirmish, implicating himself with them. Aramis attempts to apprehend the Cardinal, but King Louis stops him and punches Richelieu, knocking him in to the river. Athos tells the story of a count that fell in love with a beautiful woman, but upon discovering that she was branded for execution, betrayed her by giving her up to the authorities.
There is something intrinsically silly in this story, and unless you can find a way to believe in it at some level even on the level on which Peter Pan believes in fairies , it's just a lot of feathers. Fortunately, Athos, Porthos and Aramis have refused to lay down their weapons and continue to protect their king. When more of the Cardinal's Guards arrive, d'Artagnan is captured. Constance, on the stairs, slides the sword away and puts her hands in his, smiling. King Louis offers him anything he wants, and all d'Artagnan wants at Athos' request is to serve Louis as a musketeer. Not knowing who the spy is, d'Artagnan tells her of his plans, whereupon she tries to kill him. As they flee, d'Artagnan reveals Richelieu's plans; they decide to find the spy and get the treaty to prove Richelieu's guilt.
